The question of the day will eating before bed really make you gain weight? Well the truth of the matter is what you eat and when can play a huge factor on your weight loss. If you eat the right things during the right time of day you will actually lose weight. Eat the wrong thing at the wrong time and you can just plan on skipping the scales in the morning. You will wake up feeling heavier and packing on a few extra pounds.
So when is the best time eat? Breakfast! When you eat breakfast your body has a metabolism boosting benefit that helps you get through the day and burns fat easier. If you eat breakfast you will be less hungry throughout the day and therefore you will have no need to binge eat before bedtime. Think about it, those who skip breakfast are starving by lunch time so they inhale their food too quickly therefore they snack more throughout the day and by dinner time they are starving again. Skipping breakfast causes you to overeat throughout the day because your body’s metabolism is higher and it’s trying to catch up for what it lacked in the morning.
If eat three balanced meals a day and only snack when you are hungry then you should be going to bed only feeling slightly hungry. When you go to bed feeling slightly hungry your body will use the fat it has been storing while you are sleeping. Your bodies metabolism is very low while you are sleeping and only needs enough to keep your heart beating, your lungs breathing and your eyes moving during REM. If you treat yourself to a snack before bedtime then your body won’t have the opportunity to use the stored fat and you will wake up feeling full from the snack before, therefore skipping breakfast and therefore not getting to your full metabolic potential that day.
So if you want to shed a few pounds try closing your kitchen down 2-3 hours before bedtime. This will also help reduce other medical conditions that can arise from eating before bedtime as well.
